FLASS reaches out to prospective students at 2025 Taiwan University Expo

As part of its broader outreach strategy, FLASS leverages various platforms to connect with prospective non-local students. In line with this goal, we participated in the 2025 Taiwan University Expo (2025大學暨技職校院多元入學博覽會) alongside FHM and FEHD on 1 and 2 March 2025. This year, the Expo was held in Taipei and Kaohsiung, serving as a crucial platform for Taiwanese students seeking information on studying abroad. The Global Affairs Office (GAO) coordinated EdUHK’s participation in the 2025 Expo by setting up booths in both cities, and deploying University personnel at the Taipei exhibition to explain our programmes and answer questions in person.

Ms Jennifer Ho Ching, GAO’s Assistant Director, stated in an interview with Taiwanese media that Taiwanese graduates who secure teaching positions in Hong Kong can enjoy an attractive starting salary of approximately HK$37,000 (NT$156,000). She emphasised that Hong Kong as an international city has high English proficiency requirements for students. “Taiwanese students are reasonably proficient in English. They also have the advantage of speaking Mandarin and reading and writing in traditional Chinese. With an open mind and a willingness to embrace diverse cultures, they should encounter no difficulty adapting to their studies in Hong Kong,” she added.

Dr Paul Choi Tat-shing from the Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES) and Ms Winnie Cheung Wing-yin from the faculty office represented FLASS at the Taipei exhibition to handle in-person enquiries. Dr Choi, alongside representatives from the other two faculties, went onstage to brief prospective students about studying at EdUHK, and introduce undergraduate programmes of their respective faculties to visitors. “Every year, around the release of the Taiwanese General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) results at the end of February, Taiwanese high school graduates are eager to learn about overseas study opportunities. By providing them with details about our programmes, we assisted them in making informed decisions regarding which undergraduate programmes to enrol in,” Dr Choi said.

Throughout the two-day event, the exhibition venue was packed with students eager to learn about various programmes offered by universities worldwide. Over the two days, many aspiring students inquired about FLASS’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching (BSc(SPSC)), and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology (BSc(AI&EdTech)) programmes among others that we offer. Some aspiring students even completed the application forms onsite.

EdUHK is one of the six Hong Kong universities taking part in this year’s Expo. The University has been participating in the Expo since 2013, which has been organised by the China Times Group since 1995.
